 Service in our Community

 Agape Bible Church Project

Text Box: Agape Bible Church
Ithaca, NY
As we do throughout the year we seek service opportunities for our clients as they begin the process of transformation. Every week residents of CARS residential addiction treatment program in Trumansburg volunteer at the food pantry sponsored by Trumansburg area Council of Churches. In another community service project, clients from CARS spend a little time each week at Juniper Manor Elder Housing in Trumansburg.

This year in addition to those service opportunities CARS was a part of a very important project at the Agape Bible Church on Applegate road. Several of our clients, some who have building trades experience & skills, assisted Agape in a major renovation project. This was a very extensive demolition and rebuilding project that meant a great deal to that church family and the community.

Pastor Mike Corriero, Assistant Pastor Chip Adams-Compton and project supervisor Steve Murray spoke to me about the project. “First we want you to understand we never would have gotten this done without them. They were great. They were right here right from the beginning. They had the skills and knowledge to get things done. They had a lot of specialized knowledge that made it all possible. They were great workers. They put in a lot of time here over many months. They were serious workers. They really showed the quality of the CARS’ program by all they did and how they did it. This whole project lifted everyone’s spirits. It opened hearts here to see them doing so much for us when they were going through so much themselves. It really built a strong sense of community between Agape and the residents of the CARS program.”

“They were a lot of fun. They were selfless. They were a big reason we came in under budget.” –story by Bill Rusen
